Postman: API Quality at Every Layer
Comprehensive test collections, environment parity, CI/CD integration, monitoring. Postman becomes the source of truth for your API contract.
What we deliver with Postman
Collection structure
One organised collection per API with folders by resource, shared auth and pre-request logic, and no duplicated ad-hoc requests.
Environment parity
Variable sets per environment with secrets in vaults, so the same collection runs against local, test, and staging without edits.
Assertions that catch regressions
Status, schema, and business-rule checks written into tests, turning exploratory collections into a regression suite.
CI integration
Newman runs in the pipeline against ephemeral environments, with reports published so failures are visible in review.
Contract documentation
Published collections and examples that match the implementation, giving partners something correct to integrate against.
How we work with Postman
Postman is often a personal scratchpad where the API tests live far from the code and drift within a sprint. We move the collection into the repository, generate it from the schema where possible, and run it in CI so it stays honest.
The test suite is deliberately thin but meaningful: schema validation, authorisation boundaries, and the handful of business rules that would cost money if they regressed. Broad shallow coverage beats an enormous suite nobody maintains.
Postman in production: where it breaks
The same handful of problems show up on almost every engagement. Naming them early is cheaper than discovering them at 2am.
Collections drift from the code
Tests pass in Postman and fail in reality because the workspace was never updated. Versioning collections with the service fixes it.
Hardcoded tokens and hostnames
Credentials committed in shared workspaces and requests pointed at production. Environment variables and vaults remove both risks.
Requests without assertions
A 200 is not a passing test. Schema and business-rule assertions turn calls into actual coverage.
When to use Postman
API-first teams that need contract coverage where unit tests are thin.
Partner integrations requiring reliable, published documentation.
Platform teams exposing APIs to internal consumers.
